Cop, family allege discrimination

Imphal, August 08 2020: A police personnel including his family members are allegedly facing discrimination in their own locality after a false rumour that he had been tested COVID-19 positive was circulated in the locality.

The said personnel is a resident of Awang Sekmai in Imphal West district and he is posted at City Police Station.

The police personnel, speaking to this reporter said, after a personnel of City Police Station tested positive, authorities were arranging to conduct COVID test for other personnel.

But in the meantime, a rumour started spreading in his locality that he had been tested positive for COVID-19 .

The rumor even claimed that he has been loitering around after testing positive.

Due to the rumour, shops in his locality started shutting whenever his family members went to buy something.

Some shopkeepers have even gone to the extent of denying to sell anything to his family members straight away.

He got himself tested on August 4 at a private diagnostic centre and the result came out negative.

But even after hearing this, people in the locality are still showing suspicion towards him and his family members, he said.

He appealed to the people to stop spreading false rumours.
