IEDs seized

Police today claimed that they have averted a major disaster following seizure of two powerful IEDs from Laipham Khunou, Imphal East district.
It was a joint team of NNC and PREPAK who were planning to trigger bomb blasts using the two IEDs.
Speaking to media persons about the seizure at Commando complex, Imphal West DSP (Cdo) Dr S Ibomcha said that Imphal East and Imphal West commandos, acting on a specific tip off that some elements have been planning to trigger bomb blasts in Imphal, have been searching for the bomb(s) since yesterday.
This morning at about 8.30, two active workers of NNC namely Luingam Horam of Hoomi village, Ukhrul district and Elangbam Gyaneshwar of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai were apprehended from near Cheirap Court complex.
Acting on their disclosure, two IEDs attached with two electronic detonators, four circuits, one battery cell, one system control set, two bed switches, six separate electronic detonators and two mobile phone handsets were seized from a rented house of Elangbam Gyneshwar located at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai, Maibam Leirak.
It is said that Gyneshwar is working as an Usher in Gauhati High Court.
The IEDs and other explosive materials were delivered to them near Chingmeirong AR post last morning by one man who came on a motorcycle at the instruction of one Tamocha alias Nanao of PREPAK who is currently in Burma.
Luingam Horam was working as a staff officer under one Yirei of NNC's Tangkhul region.
Luingam and Gyneshwar were searching for an suitable site to set off the IEDs before they were apprehended.
It has also been established that NNC and PREPAK were working jointly to trigger off the IEDs, said DSP Ibomcha.
