The All Manipur Senior Citizen's Welfare Association (AMSCWA), Imphal in a meeting today demanded withdrawal of the cease-fire extension agreement between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) beyond Nagaland.
All the senior citizens who attended the meeting held at the residence of Kh.
Dhirendra, IAS (Retd.) discussed at length various issues arising out of the cease-fire extension agreement, a release said.
The extension of the ceasefire in Manipur has caused the loss of 15 precious, lives who volunteered to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Normal life in Manipur has also been seriously affected on account of the imposition of curfew, 144 CrPC and widespread bandh, the release said.
There is an apprehension, that the cease-fire extension beyond Nagaland may create communal conflicts with dire consequences, the association said stating that the Centre's decision has also created tensions and distrust among the various communities living in Manipur for centuries in peace and harmony.
Meanwhile, the Manipur unit of the South Asia Fraternity; the All Manipur Sound Service Association (AMSSA), Imphal and the teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the Liberal College, Luwangsangbam have also demanded the withdrawal of cease-fire from Manipur.
