Sanajaoba places Marangching tragedy in RS

On the 14th day of the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba today raised a supplementary question in connection with the devastating landslide that occurred on the night of June 30 at Marangching railway track construction site in Noney district.
Directing his question towards Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw during question hour, the MP questioned what measures had been undertaken by the Railway Ministry to prevent the occurrence of similar mishaps in the future.
The MP added that more than 50 persons had lost their lives in the unfortunate incident including Territorial Army personnel, railway construction staff and innocent villagers of the area.
The rescue operation roughly lasted a month and around 5 bodies are still missing, the Rajya Sabha MP informed.
In his response, the Minister of Railways stated that the Ministry is currently taking up appropriate technical measures including efforts towards stabilising the slope and other necessary steps in this regard.
He also highlighted the importance of the railway project while assuring the Rajya Sabha MP of its success.
Notably, the Railway Minister also lauded the Chief Minister N Biren Singh led rescue and relief operation which was carried out in complete coordination with the Defence Ministry, the Home Ministry and the State Government of Manipur.
