Threat over Guwahati molestation case

Secretary of All India Mahila Congress Committee, Poonam Rani Wangkhem has claimed that she has received threatening phone calls after she demanded justice for the Guwahati molestation victim.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference at Kwakeithel today, Poonam revealed that she had received 14-15 calls after she raised the banner of justice.
Poonam Rani added that she has been campaigning against the infamous incident through different means.
She further said that she had met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi after having a detailed account of the incident from the victim.
Following her meeting with the Chief Minister, one police Sub-Inspector of the area was put under suspension and a Senior SP was transferred for dereliction of duty.
Acting on her plea, Poonam Rani added, Assam Government is also currently providing shelter to the victim with 24-hour police protection.
Rs 50,000 each were provided by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora to the victim, she added.
Under her supervision, Assam Mahila Congress not only staged a rally in protest against the incident but also submitted a memorandum to the National Commission for Women.
Taking a dig to the news channel that broadcast the video footage which showed uncensored face of the victim, Poonam Rani said that she had demanded Tarun Gogoi to take action against the accused persons, Chief Editor of the news channel and Video Journalist who allegedly instigated the incident.
Poonam Rani also thanked Tarun Gogoi for taking swift action by nabbing 12 of the 15 accused persons.
Chief Editor and the Video Journalist in question had already resigned from their respective posts, she added.
Poonam Rani Wangkhem is the Secretary in-charge of Assam Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura and North East Bengal of All India Mahila Congress Committee.
