MLA pledges to ameliorate Moreh woes

Imphal, January 16 2013: Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency MLA D Korungthang has pledged to highlight plight of Moreh citizens and prevail upon relevant authorities for all possible measures to sanitise the border town from unwanted elements.

The MLA's assurance came in the backdrop of unidentified miscreants carrying out a bomb attack at the Moreh residence of Hill Tribal Council (HTC) president Jangmang Haokip and submission of a memorandum by various organisations based in the border town demanding effective security for the people.

A joint delegation of Hill Tribal Council, Meetei council Moreh, Tamil Sangam, Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh and All Community Development Organisation, Moreh also met the MLA and other Government officials of Chandel district today during which the MLA assured to contribute his mite in addressing the situation.

The other district officials present at the meeting also included ADC Chandel chairman Lhukhosei Zou, DC Th Chittaranjan Singh and SP E Priyokumar.

Appreciating concern shown by the MLA on the current issue besieging Moreh, the bodies proposed Indian authorities prevail upon their Myanmar counter-parts for necessary action to arrest criminals involved in the January 14 bomb attack, sanitise Indian criminals operating from Myanmar, particularly those based at Namphalong and Tamu areas of the neighbouring country, and complete sealing of the Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh until and unless the Myanmar authorities provide concrete assurance and act accordingly to ensure that no criminal or organisation operating from across the border cause harm to innocent public of Moreh.

The organisations also mentioned that the bomb attack at Jangmang's residence was pre-determined and pre-planned and is an established fact that criminals in the garb of revolutionary organisation are based in Myanmar.

Further claiming that the attackers were seen coming from Namphalong side in Myanmar and escaped through the no-man's land to the same destination wielding guns, they lamented that similar attacks had also taken place in the past.

Demanding that both the state and Central Government ask Myanmar to stop patronising criminals in their soil, the bodies also opined that free movement of criminal elements in the border town and committing broad daylight crimes on prominent public leader is a testimony of absence and inefficiency on the part of security forces in the town.

The incident on January 14 is the latest in the regular series and one can imagine what next and what more is in store, maintained the joint memorandum.
