Lakhs of rupees in cash, gold and other valuable articles were robbed from a jeweller by some unidentified persons at gun point when he was returning home from his jewellery shop at about 7.30 last night.
Hijam Surjit (34) s/o late Tomba of Thoubal Nongangkhong was returning home from his jewellery shop located at Thoubal Keithel when he was stopped on the way by the armed persons who confiscated all his belongings leaving behind only his tiffin carrier.
The confiscated items included 18 tollas of gold worth Rs 2.18 lakhs approximately, Rs 1.13 lakh in cash, silver worth Rs 44,000, a Honda Activa and mobile phone handset (Nokia N-70) .
Speaking to some reporters today, a crestfallen Surjit conveyed that he was returning home after locking his shop, Surya Jewelry Works on his Honda Activa (MN-04B/1988) taking along with him the cash, gold and silver, all put in a polythene bag.
From Thoubal Pakhangkhong, three persons riding a motorcycle started following him.
Surjit said that he did not notice the registration number of the motorcycle.
As he approached Nongangkhong Primary School, the motorcycle overtook him and suddenly stopped right in front of his Honda Activa.
The very next moment, one of the pillion riders brandished a gun and forced him to ride up to the Okram Apokpa compound, Surjit recounted.
There he was forced to get down from the scooter and lie on the ground.
Whenever he raised his head, the robbers lugged him with the gun.
As one of them was looking over him, the two other took away all his belongings.
Soon after, they left the place taking his Honda Activa too, Surjit conveyed.
Before the leaving the scene, the robbers also threatened to kill Surjit in case he inform any one about the incident, Surjit recalled adding that a complaint has been lodged at police station in connection with the incident yesterday itself.
The local people informed that there were cases of unidentified persons confiscating two-wheelers earlier at the same spot.
