Imphal, September 12 2014 :
Daily wage workers engaged in RIMS during the time of demoted Director Professor Sekharjit were not paid their wages.
Even as a CBI team raided Professor Sekharjit's quarters inside RIMS complex at around 8.30 am today, around 30 daily wage workers came to Sekharjit's quarters to demand their overdue wages.
But they were denied entry by security forces as the raid was going.
Talking to media persons who were covering the raid, some daily wage workers said that around 100 daily wage workers were engaged by Prof Sekharjit and his wife in different phases with an assurance that all of them would be absorbed in RIMS.
Although some well-connected daily wage workers have been appointed on contract basis, there are still around 53 daily wage workers who have been not paid their wages for almost one year.
Majority of the daily wage workers have not been getting their wages for the past five/six months.
Apart from assigning all kinds of menial works, the daily wage workers were also allegedly used as domestic helpers.
The daily wage workers said they have been given an assurance by the new Director that their wages would be paid starting from the month of September.
