Imphal, April 01 2009:
Saying that AICC president Sonia Gandhi is likely to come to the State on April 13 to campaign for Congress party, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Dr Th Kishan, Y Token and A Rajen has called a general strike on the same day.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC convenor N Michael said that a general strike will enforced from 4 am till 6 pm of April 13 .
However, medical, fire service, water supply and those coming to pay homage at Cheiraoching will be exempted from the purview of the strike, he said.
Questioning whether the Government of India has any hidden agenda behind its refusal to ask NSCN (IM) to hand over the culprits to the State Govt, the convenor asserted that the proposed visit of Sonia Gandhi to Manipur is nothing but hoodwinking people.
The statement that the three rescued individuals were innocent and not involved in the abduction and subsequent murder sounds irresponsible, he remarked while demanding that the exact reasons behind imprisoning four individuals for their reported involvement in the murder should be made public.
Recalling that Works Minister K Ranjit, MLA I Hemochandra, PDA Chairman Dr Loken and MLA Nandakumar came to the homes of the three victims and said that facts and circumstances of the murder could be established from the three employees abducted together with Dr Kishan but later 'rescued' by security forces, the JAC decried the conspicuous silence of the Minister and MLAs.
In case, the three 'rescued' individuals are not produced within 24 hours counting from 6 pm today, Minister K Ranjit and MLAs I Hemochandra, Dr Loken and Nandakumar will be boycotted, Michael said.
Sapam Shubangkar, another JAC convenor, said that there will be public curfew from 6 pm to 10 pm of April 17 .
He further appealed to the people to burn effigies of Th Muivah during the curfew hours.
Y Kapu, the third convenor said that a public rally and a meeting will be held on April 18 .
