Imphal, November 04 2009:
The State unit BJP has expressed keen desire to cobble-up like minded opposition political parties to form a united front and lay bare alleged mis-governance of the Secular Progressive Front Government led by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
significantly, the concept of a unified front is said to have dawned upon the saffron party considering the organisational structure and functioning of the Apunba Lup, which is a conglomerate of civil society organisations set up in the aftermath of the killing and rape of Thangjam Manorama Devi by Assam Rifles soldiers on July 11, 2004 .
Since then this body has been spearheading movements demanding repeal of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers' Act and atrocities committed by security forces.
The Lup is also leading the movement in denunciation of the July 23 BT Road firing.
"Like the Apunba Lup, we will form a front of all like-minded opposition parties to fight against the all round failure of the Secular Progressive Front government," said P Chandrasekhar Rao, BJP's north east in-charge, here today.
"The Lup's organisational structure and the way they launch their movements particularly against the rampant fake encounters perpetrated by the security forces and other co-related issues are very effective and forceful," the BJP leader said.
He said the party will initiate talks with other opposition parties to form the front on completion of BJP's organisational election scheduled in December.
Without a united fight against the total failure of the state, the people will continue to suffer, he said while speculating that other parties will definitely agree to set up the front.
As of now MPP and BJP are working hand in hand against the July 23 shoot-out and the two parties along with others will field a common candidate to fight the Congress in the ensuing bye-election to Yaiskul constituency, he added.
"We will continue to extend our best level to ensure all persons found guilty in the Khwairamband Bazaar shoot-out are punished accordingly.
We are also ready to raise this issue in the forthcoming parliament session," Rao asserted.
"After the party's election, we will revamp our party after chalking out smart plans and grooming young leaders in one of them.
We will try to project maximum number of youngsters in the next state assembly election," he said while recalling the poll debacle in the last assembly and general election suffered by BJP.
