Imphal, November 04 2009:
AMSU, MSF, and KSA have downplayed the public meeting convened by DESAM on November 2 at BOAT as a type of street play wherein some demented people shouted on mics indiscriminately.
A joint statement issued by the three students' bodies - AMSU, MSF, and KSA - derided that the meeting, which held the impression like a Kendra level meetings of the Khangabok and Thoubal Congress, fails to enforce the resumption of classes excepting some schools in Thoubal.
The statement alleged that DESAM and other likeminded organisations have applied the brake of the agitation from being intensified by discouraging those people who have wholeheartedly participated in the agitation.
People have also observed that the government had set the detained leaders of DESAM to spoil the agitations.
The statement made by DESAM, saying that a people's movement like that of June 18, 2001 is necessary, clearly indicated that the government has been instigating DESAM to speak few words.
Because DESAM was not even founded when the agitation of June 18 took place and DESAM would not have known the genesis of the agitation, it stated.
Had there been DESAM when the June 18 incident happened, the agitation minght not have that much impact as the organisation would have stood against the movement.
Stating that DESAM has been known for its notorious acts, the joint statement asserted that it could not be taken that the whole students of Manipur have resumed classes by forcing some five/six students to attend classes.
It urged the All Manipur Government Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association to remember that the agitation is the fight between the life and death of the citizens.
It urged all concerned that the government has used DESAM and some likeminded organisations to stand against the people's agitation.
