Imphal, August 20: One company of the 34 Bn CRPF has been deployed at Tangkhul Avenue at Chingmeirong (Dewlahland) after a series of requests from the Tangkhul Village Committee to the Governor and the concerned police station for protection of the local Tangkhul residents in the wake of the recent anti-ceasefire agitation in the state.

It may recalled that the vice chairman of TAVC, M Ngaranmi, had requested the governor in a memorandum on July 12 to deploy security forces in the area in view of the tension arising out of the cease-fire issue in the valley.

The memorandum also mentioned that more than 730 Nagas-belonging to Tangkhul, Paomai and Zeliangrong tribes were inhabiting the area.

More than 70% of them fled their home in apprehension of a communal flare-up during the recent anti-ceasefire agitation in the valley and sought shelter at relief camps set up in Sanapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel districts.

The committee in another memorandum to the Governor on August 18 stated that none of state security forces including the 2nd Bn IRB posted nearby conducted patrol in the areas despite requests.

The committee approached the 12 AR authority recently requesting fro frequent patrol in the area.

The 12 AR kept the wishes of the villagers and conducted round the clock patrol in the area to allay their apprehension.

Mention may be made that the representatives of the United Committee, Manipur, had reportedly visited and met the residents recently and took stock of their plight.

They also assured the residents that no untoward incident will be allowed to happen to them, and further requested the residents to call back all those who left their home.

On August 18, a team of Imphal West district police led by SP and SDPO also visited the area and met the residents.

They also assured the residents of all cooperation.
