Cheat accused sent to custody

Imphal, August 17 2024: Moirangthem Gourav, a 25 year old, has been sent to judicial custody by the Court of Duty Magistrate Imphal on the charge of blackmailing a woman after having a relationship with her using a fake identity.

Gourav, s/o Iboyaima of Uripok Gopalaji Leirak, will stay in judicial custody till August 31 .

The accused was arrested on August 12, 2024 based on a complaint lodged by the woman and he was produced before the Court on completion of his police custody period by a team of Imphal police today.

The police sought the accused be sent to judicial custody to ensure smooth investigation of the case.

As per the APP, the accused became acquainted with the woman in 2021 through Instagram, a social media site, and started exchanging texts.

However, the accused lied to the woman by introducing himself as a 33 year old RK Justin from Uripok, said the APP and added that Gaurav had physical relationship with the woman for the first time in a hotel located at Uripok.

The APP further said that the accused recorded the act on the false pretext that he would marry her in future.

Further stating that the accused recorded videos every time he took advantage of the woman, the APP said that Gaurav threatened he would upload the indecent videos if the woman disobeys him.

The woman cut off contact with Gaurav in early 2024 after she came to know that the accused had sexual affairs with other women and blackmailed them too, continued the APP and maintained that the accused had accepted the charges levelled against him.

The Court after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the material on record remanded Gaurav to judicial custody till August 31 .
