Kpi rallies against 'anti-tribal' Bills

Kangpokpi, September 10 2015 : A large number of Kangpokpi people took out a rally today protesting the alleged 'anti-tribal' Bills passed by the State Legislative Assembly and condemning the death of nine individuals during the mass protest in Churachandpur.

Organized jointly by Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kuki Women's Union Kangpokpi Block and Kangpokpi Women's Welfare Organization, around 5000 people from different parts of Kangpokpi area gathered this morning at Brigadier Thomas Ground to hold one of the largest rallies in the area.

The rally flagged off from Brigadier Thomas Ground and passed through the Trans Asian Highway, IT Road and upper Kangpokpi Bridge.

During the two hours long rally, all the business establishments in the town were closed and vehicular movement brought to a halt.

Protesters shouted slogans, "Ibobi Government � down, down", "Tribal MLAs- shame, shame", "We condemn- the three Bills" etc and held placards which read "Wake up Ibobi there are 9 Robinhoods in the Hills", "Rubber bullets for valley and live bullet for hills" .

A public meeting was also held before the rally kicked off at Brigadier Thomas Ground.

Condoling the death of the "Tribal Martyrs", a minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

During the meeting, various speakers including leaders of Sadar Hills CSOs, social workers, Church leaders, village chiefs strongly opposed the three alleged 'anti-tribal' Bills and condemned the State Government for allegedly trying to annihilate the tribals' rights.
