Imphal, May 09 2010: With the situation returning to normalcy slowly, the curfew clamped in Mao town at Manipur-Nagaland was lifted down to dusk today even as Senapati district administration order disposal of the two dead bodies killed in Thursday violence incident if respective families failed to take back.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Secretary, DS Poonia personally took stoke of the prevailing situation at Mao gate along with GOC of 57 Mountain Brigade, DS Hooda Sunday.

They were lifted by army chopper at Mao gate at about 8.30 am and back 11 am.

An official report received from Senapati district said that Senapati District Magistrate has lifted curfew imposed at Mao town under section 144 of CrPC from 6 am till 6 pm today.

However, prohibition of assembly of five or more people likely to turn out violence and carrying of deadly weapons is still imposing.

The district magistrate also reportedly ordered disposal of the two dead bodies lying unclaimed at Mao Public Health Centre if families failed to claim within the next 24-hour.The postmortem to the dead bodies had already conducted yesterday even though families refused to claimed with the supports of the agitating NGOs like Naga Women Society, ANSAM, UNC etc.

against the government decision of banning entry of NSCN(IM) general secretary Th Muivah.

On the other hand, state chief secretary, DS Poonia along with GOC 57 Mountain Division today visited the Mao gate to take first hand stoke of the situation there.

They were airlifted by an Army chopper.

During the visit, they also held a meeting with the public leaders to bring an amicable solution on the matter of dead bodies of two youths died in the Thursday violence incidents at Mao gate.

They reportedly insisted the families and relatives of the deceased families to take back the dead bodies to perform last rites.

They also assured of compensation to the lost of life and properties on that day by the government.

However, public leaders refused to accept to the assurances given by the government, reports said.

Instead of accepting the government assurances, they submitted same copies of memoranda submitted by the Naga NGOs to the Prime Minister and Union Home minister with regard to their demand on Muivah's visit to the state.

Reports also said that hundreds of women took part in the sit-in protest at Tadubi and other places on the stretch of the NH-39 have decided to block the road reinforcing forces from Imphal on the way since the death of two protestors at Mao gate on Thursday last.

Stretch of the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 has been totally blocked for the last around three days by piling up stones and stretching woods at various places across the road start from Tumuyon Khullen some 3 kilometer towards Senapati from Kangpokpi.

Residents of villages on both sides of the stretch were blocking the road to stop reinforcement of state security forces and police commandos alleging them of killing two protestors and injuring to many other at Mao gate.

Central forces will be allowed to pass through, protestors blocking the road said.

At every instance of around 100 meter, they piled up stones and woods.

They even dug out the road so that only two wheeler vehicle can pass through.

Due to the blockade security reinforcement of Manipur Rifles, IRB and police personnel left Imphal on Friday were halting at Kangpokpi police station unable to proceed beyond Kangpokpi due to the piling up stones and woods on their way to Mao gate.
