The 'Zero Garbage Campaign', aimed at keeping Imphal City neat and clean, has been formally launched simultaneously in 12 localities of Thangmeiband assembly constituency today.
As a part of the campaign under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission and officially launched by the Chief Minister O Ibobi singh on August 12, the awareness programme was carried out at different residential pockets of Thangmeiband.
under the campaign, awareness programme cum meetings would also be held in the four municipal council wards of Thangmeiband AC on August 24.The meetings, to be held at three locations in each of IMC wards (WN-1, 2, 3 and 25) would prevail upon the citizens to contribute their mite in maintaining cleaniness in the city by dumping wastes at designated spots only.
Places where such meetings will be held till September 1 have already been identified and every household urged to subscribe Rs 50 per month to IMC agents entrusted to collect the wates.
Similar campaigns would cover the entire 27 IMC wards with incentives to be offered to local clubs that implements the campaign in its true spirit and form.
Cash awards of Rs 15,000; Rs 10,000; and Rs 7000 would be awarded to the top three clubs within an IMC ward while competitions would also be organised for the entire 27 wards with cash award of Rs 50,000; Rs 30,000; and Rs 20,000 adjudged among the best three.
Experts pointed out that about 70 percent of the domestic wastes could be converted to bio-fertilizers while 10 percent of the waste would be re-cycled.
The waste treatment plant currently under construction at Lamdeng would handle wastes collected from the capital city areas.
