Even after more than a week has past since the Chief Minister, O Ibobi, launched on August 12, the ground work for 'Zero Garbage Project' the campaign is yet to take off.
Official sources said that the campaign will start from August 24 .
The campaign will start from 12 different places in the Thangmeiband Assembly constituency, an official source from the Imphal Municipality office said today adding that on the first day the campaign will touch Tabung Pukhri Mapal, Sinam Leikai and Hajarimayum Mandhop of Ward no.I and Hijam Dewan Leikai and Soubam Lairembi Mandhop of Ward no.II .
On the second day on August 26 the campaign will cover Ima Khundhokhanbi Shanglen inside the DM College campus in Ward no.I and Lallambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai Youth Club in Ward no.III.
This will be followed by campaign work at Lairenhanjaba Leikai Ibuthou Naodakhong Shanglen of Ward no.I and Khoyathong Polem Leikai Sagolband Lairembi Mandhop of Ward no.II on August 28 .
On August 30, the campaign will be at Ima Nongleima Shanglen of Hijam Dewan Leikai and Lalambung Makhong Community Hall cum indoor stadium under Ward no.III, it will also be launched at Aribam Mandhop of Kangjabi Leirak and Major Khul Community hall of Ward no.25 .
Next work will be held at North AOC and Thangal Bazar on September 1 .
The campaign in other six Assembly constituencies within the Imphal Municipality area will be held later.
The programme to be held will be chalked out in consultation with local MLAs of the respective constituencies, the source maintained.
The IMC has also selected 125 local clubs who will collaborate with the authority in the campaign.
The director of Manipur Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) is the overall in-charge of the campaign which would be taken up in association with the IMC authority.
The first three best performance clubs or NGOs will be awarded Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 while consolation prices of Rs 5000 will be awarded to other clubs and NGOs participating in the campaign.
Separate cash award will also be given to three wards of the IMC for best performances.
The best ward performance award will carry an amount of Rs.50,000 with Rs 30, 000 to the second best performer and Rs 20,000 to the third.
The authority will also collect Rs 50 per month from each household as charges for collecting the waste products of the household.
Considering the important role of the media in spreading awareness of the campaign, a media cell will also been opened at IMC office, Editor of Ereibak daily, Irengbam Arun, former news editor of ISTV, K Modhumangol, veteran journalists Seram Mangi, BB Sharma, and I Binoy of All India Radio, Imphal are the media coordinators of the campaign.
For a successful conduct of the Zero Garbage Campaign programme, a brain storming session will be held tomorrow at 9.30 am at the PDA office.
As the solid waste treatment plant set up at Lamangdong is likely to take one more year for completion, for the time being, waste products collected during the campaign will be dumped at the Lamphel dumping ground, the source maintained.
