All the eight female adhoc employees who were on a fast at Lamlong Bazar as the third phase of the ongoing agitation of All Manipur Adhoc Employees Association have been arrested by the police and put behind bars today.
Police took up the action as the condition of the female agitators deteriorated.
The eight agitating female adhoc employees who have been lodged at Sajiwa Jail are RK Babita Devi (Fisheries), Laishram Surbala Devi (Adult Education), Rd Samery (Veterinary and Animal Husbandry), Hekim Haokip, Kimeilam (Power), S Anita Devi (Power), W Ibemcha Devi (FCS) and N Ushakiran Devi (FCS).
With them, the number of adhoc employees who have been lodged in Sajiwajail has risen to 31.The adhoc employees working in various Government departments have been launching fast unto death in pursuance of their demands for extension and regularization of their service and paying of pending salaries.
Meanwhile, joint secretary of All Manipur Adhoc Employees' Association N Jayanta Singh has decried the indifferent attitude of the Government towards the demands of the adhoc employees and strongly condemned use of force instead of conceding to their demands.
