Cabinet okays farmers Bill

The State Cabinet has given its assent to table a Bill on management of irrigation systems in the State Assembly which would take farmers on board.
The Cabinet meeting held this morning with Chief Minister O Ibobi in the chair agreed to table the Manipur Participatory Irrigation Water Users Bill 2015 in the State Assembly which would hold its winter session from December 18 .
In line with the Central Government's instruction to rope in farmers in the management of irrigation systems, the Bill prepared by Command Area Development Authority (CADA) was given assent by the State Cabinet.
The State Cabinet also gave its approval to table the draft Manipur Motor Vehicles Tax-ation (Second Amendment) Bill 2015 during the forthcoming winter session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
With a view to improve revenue collection, the Cabinet decided to hike tax levied on vehicles sold in the State to four per cent of the minimum floor rate.
Earlier, the Central Government advised the State Government to levy tax of six per cent of the minimum floor rate.
The State Cabinet further agreed to purchase 16.0099 acres of land from owners directly for construction of a 400 KV power sub-station at Yaithibi village.
According to a decision adopted at the Cabinet meeting, 84 Grade I SOs and six Grade II SOs would be appointed for Public Health Engineering Department.
However, the question of enforcing the Manipur Higher Education Code was deferred as the Law Dept's opinion was still awaited.
