Training on food processing concludes

A five-day skill development training programme on "Value Addition of Cereals, Fruits, Vegetables & Spices through Processing" concluded on Friday at the College of Community Science (CCS), Tura, Meghalaya, under Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The training held from October 21 under the sponsorship of Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and conducted in collaboration with College of Food Technology, Imphal, aims to enhance food processing skills of the participants from Meghalaya and other northeast region.
In a statement, CAU, Imphal, informed that the training was participated by 32 persons, including food manufacturers, exporters, representatives from small and medium-scale industries, rural food processing units, self-help groups (SHGs), and NGOs.
They were provided with practical training in modern food processing and preservation techniques for cereals, fruits, vegetables, and spices.
As chief guest of the closing ceremony, DRDA director Jude Rangku, inspired the attendees with his words of encouragement, while Prof Ng Iboyaima Singh, Karen Dipsera Momin and Dr Namita delivered speeches related to economic growth opportunities in the food processing sector.
The programme also identified surplus horticultural crops in Meghalaya with export potential, emphasising a pathway for economic growth in rural communities, including women-led SHGs, destitute widows, and marginalised groups, the statement added.
