Volleyball tourney, lecture programme organised

TK Gunphai and Henjol (A) respectively emerged as the men's and women's champions of an Inter-Village Volleyball Tournament organised at T Khongkhai village in Churachandpur district from April 29 till Thursday by the Assam Rifles under the theme 'Fighting Drugs through Sports'.
In release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that 11 teams, including three in women's category, participated in the tournament organised in collaboration with local village bodies for the youth of Solam Haopi area.
Apart from the playing teams, hundreds of locals witnessed the tournament to cheer and encourage their respective teams, the PRO said, adding that the event was aimed at identifying local talent to motivate them to join Indian Army and Assam Rifles and benefit from special entries into Indian Armed Forces through the sports quota.
The winning and runners-up teams of the tournament in both categories were awarded trophies, cash prizes and sports items.
On the other-hand, as a part of 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan', Assam Rifles of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) conducted a lecture programme on 'Hygiene and Sanitation' at Aina village in Churachandpur district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the lecture conducted on April 30 was centred on educating the locals about the advantages of a clean, disease-free environment and to enhance awareness regarding various hygiene and sanitation-related ailments.
During the event, the villagers numbering around 20 were updated about different waterborne diseases, effective prevention methods, and significance of maintaining tidy surroundings along with personal hygiene and sanitation practices.
