Imphal, August 20 2024:
With the internally displaced persons (IDPs) forced to seek refuge in relief camps ever since the crisis broke out on May 3 last year, the IDPs are not in a position to repay their bank loans.
The IDPs have been living in relief camps for several months without any means to earn a livelihood.
While the government has been providing essential items and medicines regularly, bank officials are pressuring the IDPs to repay their loans, raising concerns that this could cause psychological distress among them.
Meetei Council Moreh president Mayanglambam Thoiba, has also urged the bank authorities to refrain from pressing the IDPs for loan repayment until they are able to leave the relief camps and return to their homes.
