AR organises wreath-laying ceremony

Assam Rifles organised a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of Shaurya Chakra awardee rifleman Krishna Kumar Singh of 4 AR and rifleman Mekh Bahadur Kharka Chhetri, who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, an operation was launched at around 1 pm on August 16, 1993 in Chahog Khunou village after reports of insurgents being present there.
The insurgents had earlier killed one person in Pihang village.
When the operation team approached Chahog Khunou, they came under automatic gunfire from the insurgents.
Rifleman Krishna Kumar Singh, who was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, bravely returned fire despite sustaining injuries in the stomach.
His actions forced the insurgents to retreat into the jungle.
The operation successfully led to the capture of one insurgent and the recovery of arms and ammunition, it recalled.
On the other hand, rifleman Mekh Bahadur Kharka Chhetri of 1 AR was travelling in a convoy, which was ambushed near Phurn village in NC Hills by insurgents.
He made the supreme sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty, the release continued.
The release further mentioned that AR honoured the bravehearts by paying homage at War Memorials in Mantripukhri, Imphal West district, and Sehlon in Chandel district.
