Thoubal, August 20 2024:
With water level of major rivers flowing through Thoubal district on the rise following continuous rainfall in the past few days, many houses, and vast tract of paddy fields and fish farms have been flooded.
Overflowing of the Wangjing River has led to inundation of low-lying areas in Lam-ding, Sangaiyumpham and Tentha villages as the locals battle the flood-situation using excavators to drain away the flood water.
People in Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai, Mayai Leikai and Awang Leikai are also affected due to overflowing of the Nongdambi River while a landslide at Tekcham Maning Ching (hillock) has blocked the stream along Loushipat and Kharungpat consequently causing the water level to rise and flood paddy fields, fish farms and houses.
