Thoubal, December 12 2024:
Meira Paibi groups of 14 villages in Nongpok Sekmai area in Thoubal district have declared prohibition on entry/presence of unfamiliar Army personnel or security forces in the foothill villages.
Briefing the media, Chingnung Meira Paibi Lup secretary Oinam Sumati said that a group of armed individuals, claiming to be Army personnel but declining to prove their identities, arrived in a Bolero vehicle in Yairipok Pechi area in Thoubal district early Thursday morning.
She stated that due to suspicion, some local meira paibis approached and questioned them, including proof of identity.
However, the individuals refused to disclose any further details, apart from claiming to be Army personnel.
Taking advantage of only a handful of meira paibis present, the suspects managed to flee the area, she contended.
Sumati then drew the attention of both the state and central governments on the matter, demanding that no Army personnel or security forces who refuse to identify themselves be allowed to enter the foothill areas of the state.
She said that if security forces were to enter these areas, they should do so alongside state forces to prevent unwanted incidents in future.
