Imphal, August 26 2024:
Petrol suspected to have been adulterated and refined illegally have been intercepted at an oil pump at Moirang's Kokilbon in Bishnupur district, said the Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) today.
The suspected adulterated and illegal fuel was being dumped at the KIP filling station in Moirang when KSA caught it red handed.
Speaking to reporters at its office at Khuyathong, KSA general secretary Sanjoy Khullakpam said an oil tanker with IOCL logo was found dispensing the suspected illegal and adulterated fuel at the KIP filling station at Kokilbon.
The KIP station was earlier owned by a Meitei, but it is now run by a non-Manipuri, he said.
Sanjoy said the drivers of the tanker have allegedly admitted that the fuel is counterfeit fuel and they brought it into Manipur illegally using fake documents.
When the petrol was actually brought from Assam's Shiv Sagar, it was shown as procured and brought from Digboi.
They use IOCL tankers and fake documents to bring in the fuel to Manipur.
The tankers did not unload at Malom Oil Depot but directly reached the KIP Filling Station at Bishnupur.
While oil tankers they used have IOCL marking, the fuel is dumped at the KIP filling station, which is a HP outlet, said Sanjoy.
He said the drivers have confessed that today was the 5th time they have brought in the product.
Sanjoy said the persons involved are taking chance of the shortage of petroleum products in the State and carrying out the illegal activities.
When KSA is continuing its investigation, Sanjoy said, people must be cautious when buying fuel.
