MLA suggests Kim gangte resign graciously

Imphal, May 23 2014 : Citing internal differences within the State unit Trinamool Congress in the run-up to the Parliamentary elections as one of the factors for the present imbroglio besieging the political organisation, party's MLA from Andro assembly constituency Th shyamkumar opined that Kim Gangte should graciously step down as the state unit president on the ground of lacking mandate of the people in the election in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Speaking to some newspersons at his Moirang Purel (andro AC) residence today, Thounaojam Shyamkumar said in other States leaders of those political organisations that fared poorly at the recent elections either stepped down or offered resignation taking moral responsibility for the debacle.

having contested in the parliamentary election from Outer MPC while holding the party's top post and still unable to convince the electors vote for her not only indicate that Kim Gangte has lost the faith of the general public but is also a huge embarrassment for the Trinamool Congress, observed the MLA insisting that she no longer deserve to remain as the State unit chief.

Reiterating that Kim Gangte needs to resign on moral ground for the party's poor performance in the election, shyamkumar also described as unfortunate and misleading Kim Gangte's contention that he went to New Delhi to lobby with central party leaders for ousting her from the top post.

clarifying that with the permission of the Home Department, Government of Manipur, he had been staying at home to tend an ailing family elder, the MLA pledging loyalty to the political party and its ideology said he neither has the intention to grab the president's post nor cause fissures in the political organisation.

Observing that as a leader of the political organisation Kim Gangte should be well versed with the party's principle and ideology rather than act whimsically, Shyamkumar said Kim Gangte must not forget that the people of Manipur are well aware of her role as the then CPI MP when BJP-led NDA was in power at the centre.

Calling upon party members to abide and uphold the Trinamool Congress' ideology and work for its betterment irrespective of one's performance in the election, the MLA also regretted discord in the State unit TC when the BJP is voted back to power in the centre.

He suggested that party members/MLAs who wish to join the BJP first tender formal resignation letter rather than create problem in the organisation.

Reacting to recent announcement about nomination of a new State unit president with reportedly backing of five out of seven TC MLAs in the State, Shyamkumar observed that the declaration is not only a sign of political immaturity on the part of the said legislators but such a move will not be endorsed by the party high command.

Conveying that no decision has been taken by the party's high command to replace Kim Gangte, the Andro AC legislator also regretted individual opinion expressed on AIR that Trinamool Congress will eventually fade away from the State's political scenario.
