MPCC pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

Imphal, August 20 2024: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 80th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi (Sadbhavana Diwas) at Congress Bhavan today.

Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi and member of AICC's Congress Working Committee Gaikhangam led the party members and workers in offering floral tributes to the photo of Rajiv Gandhi during the observance.

Speaking at the event, former Chief Minister I Ibobi said that they will strive to make India a developed Nation as envisioned by Rajiv Gandhi.

He continued that Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister the Nation has ever seen.

Ibobi said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, mother of Rajiv Gandhi, was also assassinated at her official residence by her bodyguard.

Rajiv Gandhi was a far-sighted leader who made some sincere efforts to promote science and information technology and allied industries to make India a developed Nation, Ibobi maintained.

Ibobi further said that Rajiv introduced policies to build good relations with the neighbouring Nations.

Maintaining that Rajiv Gandhi sent Indian Peace Keeping Force at Sri Lanka to help safeguard the integrity of the country in the backdrop of a separatist movement by a rebel group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Ibobi maintained the Rajiv Gandhi unfortunately was assassinated by a suicide bomber in Tamil Nadu.
