After collecting inputs, during the development seminars held at Bishnupur and Senapati on August 21 and August 22 respectively, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai has announced that a 'development action plan' would be framed soon.
Meanwhile, following assurance from the Home Secretary that necessary funds for repairing NH-39 would be sanctioned, the Senapati District Students' Association has suspended its indefnite blockade on the Highway with effect from today.
Saying that the development seminars were useful and that he has understood the problems and aspirations of the people, GK Pillai said that schemes taken up by the Government, including water supply schemes, have been reviewed.
He noted that people were unaware about schemes taken up by the Government.
A development action plan would be formulated specifically for Manipur, based on the inputs and information collected at the two seminars, he said.
Taking part in the development seminar held yesterday at DRDA hall, Senapati, the Home Secretary assured that necessary fund for repairing NH 39 would be sanctioned within two weeks.
He said that NH-39 should be developed to a 'top class' double-lane Highway after which it would further be upgraded to a four-lane Highway.
Saying that the Highways and Surface Transport Ministry would be monitoring the development work of NH-39, Pillai appealed to the people to join in monitoring the highway development work.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Secretary DS Poonia appealed to all those concerned to lift the continuing economic blockade as necessary fund for repairing the highway has been assured.
Listening to the complaint of the people about absence of any Government college in Senapati district Hqs, the Home Secretary gave assurance to establish a Government college there.
He also assured mobile ambulances.
He further announced that a 33 KV power sub-station would be built at Mao.
The seminar which deliberated on several issues was also attended by DoNER Secretary Jarnail Singh.
The Home Secretary also met the Chief Minister, ex-MPs, MLAs and representatives of several social organisations today.
