Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen KS Yadava, who arrived at Imphal yesterday on a three-day maiden tour of the State today visited the 26th Sector Assam Rifles at Pallel and took stock of the security situation prevailing in Chandel district.
While at 26th Sector, Brig Balbir briefed the Director General on security situation in the district.
Later, the Director General also interacted with the Assam Rifles troops of the 26th Sector in connection with the operational and other developmental works being taken up in Chandel district.

During the course of his visit, the Director General also attended a function at the auditorium of Cornerstone Academy at Pallel wherein he handed over Rs 10,000 to the school authority as first instalment for education of five students belonging to poorest of the poor.
The education of the five students are being sponsored by 26th Sector.
Speaking at the occasion attended by troops of 26th Sector, Ex-servicemen, village chiefs, DC Chandel and SP Chandel, the Director General said that Assam Rifles is for the people and regardless of their place of posting the troops should carry out exemplary works for the people.
On the welfare of the ex-servicemen, the AR officer asked the ex-servicemen to put up their grievances to the notice of the local Commander and assured of doing the needful to redress them.
Accompanied by Meenakshi Yadava, president of ARWWA, Lt Gen KS Yadava arrived at Mantripukhri yesterday where he was received and briefed by IGAR(S) Maj Gen AK Choudhury on the prevailing security situation and the developmental projects being taken up by the Assam Rifles in Manipur.
The General officer also visited had also earlier visited forward areas like Somsai, Shangshak, Kakching, Churachandpur and Keithelmanbi where he interacted with the troops and the local people and exhorted them to fight against the prevailing gun culture and work towards development of the State.
On the other hand, ARWWA president Meenakshi Yadava interacted with the families and addressed their problems besides launching a number of welfare projects.
Lt Gen Yadava and ARWWA president Meenakshi Yadava would be leaving Imphal for Shillong tomorrow.
