Govt to review fire safety measures

In the aftermath of the devastating inferno at AMRI Hospital, Kolkata which claimed more than 90 lives, the Government of Manipur has decided to review the fire safety measures put in place at both Government and private hospitals of the State.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Moses Chalai said that all the Government hospitals were constructed following fire safety rules.
Private hospitals too followed the same fire safety rules.
Nevertheless, the Government would not take any chances and has decided to review the fire safety measures put in place at Government and private hospitals.
On being enquired whether RIMS and JNIMS are following the fire safety rules, Moses Chalai said that they would review fire safety measures of all hospitals including JNIMS and RIMS.
Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Dr Palin said that a fire fighting system has been already installed in Shija Hospital.
If there is any shortcoming, it would be fulfilled very soon, he added.
He also remarked that the Kolkata inferno was timely eye-opener for all authorities concerned.
