Imphal, December 13 2009:
Works Minister K Ranjit has decried the electioneering tactics of focusing on July 23 Khwairamband killings by independent candidate Hanjabam Jayadeva and leaders of political parties supporting him.
Speaking at an election meeting of Congress candidate Elangbam Suraj at Brahmapur Lalji Leikai today, Ranjit nevertheless justified the mass movement launched under the Apunba Lup following Tehelka's exposure.
Saying that Judicial Enquiry into the incident is under progress, Ranjit quoted the Chief Minister's assurance that no guilty personnel would be allowed to go scot-free.
Even as the Government has some lapses or flaws, criticising the Government and attempts to bank on such lapses will bear no fruit, Ranjit claimed.
Since the Congress-led Government was established, the financial condition of the State has improved a lot.
Moreover, the State is now able to stride towards development in different fields, he said.
Whatever miseries people are suffering today is because of misgovernance over the years.
Inspite of that, problems and issues plaguing the State have been steadily coming to ends.
Ranjit appealed to the people of Yaiskul A/C to elect Suraj so that the process of resolving issues can be carried forward smoothly.
If Suraj is elected, all Congress Ministers and MLAs including the Chief Minister would extend all assistance so that he complete take up and fulfil the projects initiated and envisaged by late Kunjeshore, Ranjit said.
In case, any other candidate wins the election, he would be only occupying a corner of the Assembly unable to do anything for Yaiskul A/C.Many other party leaders, Ministers and MLAs also addressed the meeting.
Meanwhile, chairman of Congress party's election campaign committee and MPCC vice-president T Mangibabu has exuded that the Congress candidate would certainly emerge victorious.
Asked if the Government would be affected in case Congress cannot win the by-poll, Mangibabu ruled out any such possibility even if the Congress candidate loses the by-poll.
Refuting that allegation of opposition parties that Congress MLA and Ministers have been supervising elections campaign in all the 28 polling stations, Mangibabu clarified that the individuals supervising the election campaign are office bearers of the party.
With the polling day just seven days ahead, voters have already decided for whom they should vote, he added.
