Imphal, December 13 2009:
Former Chief Minister RK Dorendra has urged the voters of Yaiskul AC not to get tempted by money power and to choose the right candidate.
The veteran political leader said this during an election meeting of the BJP-MPP-Left parties backed independent candidate H Jayadeva held at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai community ground today.
Among others, the meeting was participated by BJP president Haobam Borbabu, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang, MPP MLA O Joy and former Union Minister Th Chaoba.
Addressing the meeting, RK Dorendra called upon the people of Yaiskul constituency not to allow themselves not to sell their votes.
He asserted that there would be no respite to the misery of the people until and unless the Chief Minister is replaced.
Declaring that he and the BJP support Jayadeva, Dorendra said that political parties might have sound and impressive policies and programmes but the people of Manipur have been enduring hardships because of the incompetence of the Chief Minister.
The leaders are least concerned with the hardships of the people as they came to power in pursuit of business and contract works, he said.
People's stand against the Govt can be demonstrated by defeating the Congress candidate, Dorendra said.
Only then, AICC leaders sitting at New Delhi would come to their senses, he said .
The Congress party is hoping to secure victory of their candidate by purchasing voting rights of the people with money.
Calling upon the people of Yaiskul A/C to be cautious of Congress leaders trying woo
voters with money.
Allowing the Congress leaders to buy votes would amount to pushing Yaiskul to nadir which has produced many historical figures and prominent political personalities in the history of Manipur, Dorendra cautioned.
Asserting that the by-poll would be decisive for the political future of Manipur, Dorendra said that the people of Manipur are waiting for the verdict of Yaiskul A/C.There have been vocal objections and dissent from different quarters against the Congress-led Government responsible for a series of fake encounters, he asserted.
Even though it has been four months since educational institutions have been closed, the Government has not been doing anything to address the issue.
Rather the Government has been acting totally callous to the issue as if time would settle.
This cannot be called a wise statecraft, the former Chief Minister remarked.
Th Chaoba reminded that it was within Yaiskul constituency where people staged protest demonstration against prolonged unavailability of potable water in the heart of Imphal.
The interruption in the killings and violence would be resumed once the by-election is over, he asserted.
Many other speakers appealed to the people to elect Jayadeva.
