Miscreants tear ballot papers

Even as some miscreants tore ballot papers and poured water into a ballot boxe at two different polling stations, a large number of voters turned out in Chandel district to exercise their franchise for electing their representatives to the Autonomous District Council today.
Since early morning, a large number of electorate turned up at their respective polling stations and stood in queue to cast their votes.
Although the voter turn-out in the entire district was quite high, polling was disrupted in some places including two polling stations under 41- Chandel Assembly Constituency and five polling stations under 42-Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency.
According to information received from the spot, unknown miscreants poured water in the ballot box at 10/4 Angkhel Chayang polling station while ballot papers were torn at 11/7 Mitong polling station.
Voting at 10/4 Angkhel Chayang resumed after a brief halt due to the incident but it was again stopped as one agent of a candidate complained that he was not informed before resuming the voting.
At 1/1 Tollen, 1/2 Khoibu centre, 1/5 Bongli, 1/6 Konaitong and 3/6 Nungourok polling stations in 42 Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency, some unknown individuals poured ink inside the ballot boxes.
At 1/5 Bongli polling station, large group of womenfolk armed with sticks stormed the polling station and destroyed the ballot boxes along with ballot papers after some cadres of a SoO signatory UG group captured the polling booth for a particular candidate.
And there is also a report of a clash between the workers of two candidates at Khudei Khunou polling station in 9-Purum District Council Constituency.
According to official report, repoll will be conducted for 11/7 Mitong and 21/5 Anal Khunou polling stations in Chandel A/C and 1/1 Tollen, 1/2 Khoibu centre, 1/3 Thamlai, 1/6 Konaitong and 3/6 Nungourok polling stations under 42 Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency.
Meanwhile, some workers of a rival candidate stormed the residence of BJP candidate at Maringphai village in Chandel district at around 5.30 pm today and ransacked his house including a Tata Sumo vehicle.
The BJP candidate was identified as one TC Mephun Maring who is contesting the ADC election in 4 Kangoi DCC.
It may be mentioned that out of 24 seats of Chandel Autonomous District Council, 5 Congress candidates including the former ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou were declared elected unopposed.
