Polling officials assaulted in Tamenglong; repoll likely at 11 stations

Police said that Kh Mangijao Singh (41) of Kanglatongbi assigned as Presiding Officer and Abraham Kamei (28) of Taoseng village assigned as polling peon at 15/6 Sangrungpang polling station under 15-Chaengdai DCC segment were thrashed by NPF supporters at Sangrungpang village on the eve of polling day.
Angry villagers of Sangrungpang particularly womenfolk burned down one vehicle belonging wokers of Naga People's Front (NPF) following the assault on the two polling personnel, said a police report.
One Michael (27) of Ramgailong/Bamgaijang village sustained injuries when the women mob attacked him.
He was taken to Imphal for medical treatment.
During the violent incident, suspected cadres of NSCN (IM) allegdely fire some rounds in the air, said the injured Presiding Officer who is currently undergoing treatment.
At 15- Chaengdai DCC segment three candidates - Ramkung Pamei of NPF, Santhuiyang Pamei of BJP and sitting ADC Member Adim Panmei (Independent) are in the fray.
In another incident, HAC Vice Chairman's PA Chawangkibou (30) was beaten to death by a mob on the night of May 31.The incident took place when the deceased was allegedly making attempt to distribute money to Congress supporters, reports said.
Violence and capturing of booths occurred at many polling stations in Tamenglong district.
Repoll to four polling stations - J Pabram 8/5, Kambiron 23/4, Tamenglong HQs Ward No- II B 13/5 CMES and Tamenglong HQs ward No- 4 A Gadailong Primary School are likely to be held.
Re-poll for another seven polling stations - Tharon 11/1, Awangkhul 16/2 Part- II, Njunkuak 6/9, kaimai Kuki 10/4 Longkao 9/6, Ajuram 8/2 and Thiulon 8/3 are also likely to be held.
