Sit-in protest staged against gun threat

Thoubal, December 28 2024: In response to a gunshot fired by unknown individuals at the residence of Yengkhom Ingocha in Bashikhong Leirak under Thoubal police station around 8 pm on Thursday, causing fear among the locals, residents of Bashikhong staged a sit-in protest at Bashikhong Leirak on Friday.

The sit-in protest demonstration organised by Leishangthem Awang Leikai Meira Paibi and Club, the protestors used placards with the messages such as "Stop firing against civilians", "We condemn the firing of gunshots and hurling of bombs on residential areas", "We want Justice; We want Peace" .

A woman protester, speaking crn the sidelines, expressed that it is very unfortunate such acts of intimidation are being carried out in residential areas, causing panic among the public.

She noted that Yengkhom Ingocha, who supports his family by running a shop, had received a demand for Rs 10 lakhs.

She described such a large monetary demand as deeply troubling.

If Ingocha is indeed involved in any wrongdoing, she suggested that those responsible for the gun threat should reveal the truth, and the locals would ensure that Ingocha and his wife are handed over to them.

In light of the ongoing crisis in the state, Where everyone is suffering, such acts should not be carried out, as they could derail the current situation further, she maintained.
