Kakching, August 20 2024:
Noting sharp increase in the number of commercially-induced boarding houses and hostels which has led to various problems for students, All Kha Kanglei Students' Union (AKKSU) has announced that it will be overseeing these accommodations in the interest of student community.
In a statement, AKKSU pointed out that as operation of boarding houses and hostels directly impacts student's life, the NCPCR has formulated various guidelines regarding setting up of such accommodations to ensure the welfare of students.
Unfortunately, many individuals are opening and running these facilities without adhering to the NCPCR's guidelines.
The statement also said that many students in boarding houses and hostels are suffering from skin diseases during the rainy season due to use of untreated water.
Additionally, students are facing health issues related to improper diet, poor maintenance of health and hygiene, and imbalances in the teacher-student ratio.
Urging relevant authorities to address these concerns and implement strict measures, it also called upon all parties to obtain proper approval from the competent authority before establishing boarding houses and hostels.
Furthermore, the statement appealed to parents to support AKKSU's initiative.
