Noney, August 17 2024:
Ntayphay Luangrian (Foothills) of the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM-NTL), a zonal organisation under the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, has announced a total shutdown effective from August 18 midnight.
The protest is in response to the state government's alleged failure to implement alternative administrative arrangements for Noney district, aimed at providing better administrative convenience for Naga tribes living in the foothills of Sadar Hills and Churachandpur.
The indefinite total shutdown will affect National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road), Tongjei Maril Road (Bishnupur-Khoupum-Rengpang Road), and Leimatak Loktak Project Road, according to a statement issued by the media cell of Rongmei Naga Council Manipur - Ntayphay Luangrian.
However, essential services such as medical care, electricity, water supply, education, media, and telecom will be exempted from the purview of shutdown, the statement added.
