Book on Monsang Folk Songs released

A book titled 'Monsang Folk Songs (Sirti Kastam Lha)' was released at Monsang Pantha village community hall, Chandel district on Saturday.
The book releasing programme organised by Committee on Monsang Folk Songs in collaboration with Sirti Upa Ruh (SUR) was attended by SUR president Ng Benithan Monsang, HCCC Monsang Pantha catechist Ng Johnson, ex-ADC member Sh Manglem, former CEO ADC Chandel Ts Kothar, Sirti Eruwng Ruh (Monsang Chief Association) chairman G Khartu, Sirti Sanuw Ruh (SSR) resident Sanuw W Chancila, Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe STS), president Sapa K Gedion, Monsang Language and Literature Society (MLLS) secretary Upa Ts.
Angchung, Monsang Sporting Association (MOSA) president Sapa Wanglar Thiirtung and Food Safety Officer, Chandel Dr Sh Wilson as presidium members.
SUR president Ng Benithan congratulated chief editor of the book Dr Sh Franacis Monsang and his co-editors namely Ts Warshing, Ng Rameson and (Late) Ts Andrew Kolarshing for their tireless efforts in bringing out the much-needed book on Monsang folk songs.
Dr Sh Francis Monsang, who is presently teaching at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (Linguistic), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), gave a briefing on the book and said that the purpose of the book is to make a systematic study and document the pristine beauty and rich folk songs of the Monsang Naga tribe and make them available to Monsang community as well as others.
He further said that the importance of the book stems from the very fact that Monsang folk songs need to be documented and that Monsang traditional folk singers and elders who have preserved these folk songs from the time of their forefathers are gradually passing away.
