Kakching, December 28 2024: With an objective to rejuvenate and restore the historic Irum Turel, several bodies including Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), All Kakching Clubs Coordinating Committee (AKCOC), Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association, Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup, All Irengband Football Association and All Kha Kanglei Students' Union began dredging and cleaning of Irum Turel.

In a release, JNGVO president Ksh Chattradhari said that Irum Turel is a historic river which originates from Kakching Irum Lamdong and flows through Irengband, Hawairou and Mairenbam.

The area of Irum Turel is clearly reflected in CS Dag no 321 sheet no 1 of Kakching Wairi.

It is unfortunate that the river is now reduced to mere stream due to encroachment, he continued, while expressing apprehension that the river is on the verge of extinction.

Considering the situation, the organisations started demarcating and dredging the river with an objective to rejuvenate the dying river, he continued, while adding that they will exert pressure to authority concerned for rejuvenating the river and develop it as a historical site.
