Gang members netted with looted arms

Imphal, August 20 2024: A team of Imphal East district police commando on Monday arrested three gang members along with arms looted from the police armoury.

The arrested people have been identified as Athokpam Digson Singh alias Irai (24) son of (Late) A Rajen Singh, Maibam Suresh Singh alias Nanao (29) son of M Ibet ombi Singh and Chanambam Naotomba Singh alias Keshorkumar (21) son of Ch Ibopishak Singh, all from Iram Siphai Awang Leikai, Leirak Ashangba.

According to police, a team of Imphal East district police commando conducted frisking and checking in Lilong Chajing area on Monday around 10 pm based on a tip-off about sale of arms looted from the state police armoury by some gang members.

As a Hyundai car (MN 02B 6197), signalled to stop for checking, tried to escape the commando team chased and blocked the escape route.

Search of vehicle eventually led to recovery of one each INSAS LMG and rifle with magazines from the rear seat of the car apart from one .32 pistol with four rounds, a mobile phone and Rs 10,000 cash from the possession of Digson who was driving the vehicle; a mobile phone, power bank and Rs 1000 from Maibam Suresh; and a mobile phone from Naotomba.

On questioning, they con fessed of being part of a gang of involved in looting and transactions of arms, ammunition and explosives and other prejudicial activities, informed the police report.
