Mid-Day Meal cooks warn of cease work from June 25

All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union warned that cooks under Mid-Day Meal scheme presently working at government schools will cease work from June 25 if the government fails to issue the order for increasing monthly honorarium for cooks by June 24 .
All Manipur Mid-Day Meal Workers' Union general secretary Arambam Chanu Thoi told media persons during a press conference at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday that the cooks under Mid-Day Meal scheme are getting meagre monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 only and the Union has long been demanding to increase the honorarium amout.
The union had repeatedly intimated the matter to relevant officials in Delhi, the chief minister and the department concerned.
Honorarium for cooks had already been increased to Rs 1,600 in Kerala, Rs 3,700 in Karnataka and Rs 2,500 in Assam in 2024 .
For long, the cooks have been waiting for the increased honorarium but unable to wait any more.
Accordingly, the Union took a decision to cease work from June 25 if the authority concerned fail to issue an order for increased honorarium for cooks by June 24, Arambam Chanu Thoi said.
She also warned that school authorities have to bear responsibility on their own if they were found engaged other cooks.
