Public advised to get tested for hepatitis

A district-level observance of World Hepatitis Day 2024 was organised by District Health Society (DHS), Chandel under the aegis of National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP) at District Hospital, Chandel on Tuesday.
The observance held under the theme 'It's Time For Action' was attended by Chandel deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest, medical officer/DHS, Chandel mission director Dr Joyson Matthew Mongsang as president and District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Serbum Shakchung Moyon as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Rajkumar stressed the need for raising awareness about hepatitis, often referred to as a 'silent killer' .
He urged the public to take this disease seriously and encouraged individuals to get tested for it.
As a resource person of the programme, NVHCP, Chandel nodal officer Dr Laishram Deben Singh focused on the health concerns associated with hepatitis, especially its impact on the liver.
Dr Deben also differentiated between hepatitis B and C, discussing their unique characteristics, as well as preventive measures and available treatment options.
A hepatitis screening was conducted for the participants at the event along with distribution of medicines.
The observance was also attended by DHS medical officers, ANMs, staff and ASHA workers, among others.
