Intending candidates intensify election campaigns
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, December 26 2021: NPP's intending candidate in Langthabal AC Karam Nabakishor (Basanta) Singh has stated that the rising number of poll violence incidents in the state is due to the vanity of the contesting candidates who live under the impression that the voters could be lured with money.

He made the statement during a programme of Health & Hygienic campaign cum distribution Of sanitary pads organised by Girl's Today at his Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai residence on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Nabakishore remarked that the call for a free and fair election is slowly being misguided due to greed for power and wealth by those who have been elected.

Due to absence of strong and able leadership, the people consider the polls as a means of getting money from the contesting candidates.

However, such acts should be avoided at all cost as they are often the precursor to poll violence, he said.

On the other hand, Patsoi AC intending candidate RK Rameshwar urged against misguiding the youth in the name of politics during a youth convocation organised on the theme of "Aphaba tunglamchat amagidamak" by Youth Committee RK Rameshwar Singh at Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak Youth Club ground on Sunday.

Rameshwar urged all concerned to stop misguiding the youth onto the wrong and immoral path out of selfish interests and instead, encourage the future pillars of the society towards the right direction and help them become capable citizens.

He further urged against suppressing the youth under the old misconception that they are too young for politics, while stressing the need for electing a competent leader who could successfully lead and guide the youth.

Meanwhile, Elangbam Johnson Election Committee Keishamthong AC organised a political conference at Keishamthong Ahanthem Leikai ground on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion Keishamthong AC intending BJp candidate Elangbam Johnson stressed the need to stop all attempts being made to carry out delimitation exercise on the basis of erroneous data, while assuring of taking up the agenda of complete enforcement of MLR Act or a uniform law in Manipur to protect the interests of the indigenous population.

He also highlighted the achievement of the CM Biren led-state government, while emphasising that poverty cannot be eliminated through "money for votes" but by empowering at least one member of every poor household.

The conference was also attended by BJP spokesperson Rk Pramodini and vice president N Nimbus, both of whom informed that the final candidates of the party would be announced after thorough screening, and urged the candidate to keep their workers under control.

On the other-hand, Uripok AC intending BJP candidate Kh Ra-ghumani (retired IAS) distributed winter blankets to elderly citizens of Polling Station no.10-24 during a meeting held at Kombirei Keithel on Sunday evening.

During the meeting, the retired IAS officer explained his reasons for joining politics, including his dreams to better the lives of the people in the state including senior citizens, widows, youth, etc.

The meeting was also attended by BJP Intellectual Cell convenor Potsangbam Sashikanta.

In another election-related activity, Khurai AC intending Congress candidate Khuraijam Ratankumar launched his election campaign from his residence on Sunday.

Addressing the denizens of Khurai, Ratakumar assured of working to his highest level to improve the constituency in all sectors including horticulture, agriculture, education, small industries, etc, in addition to helping to resolve the various issues plaguing the state, under the banner of Congress party.

Meanwhile, Wangkhei AC intending candidate Thangjam Arunkumar has stressed the need to empower and encourage women so as to develop the society.

Speaking on the sidelines pf a winter programme for women organised by Election Committee Ward no 21 Wangkhei AC at CSU Nongmeibung ground on Sunday, Arunkumar emphasised the need for strengthening the bond between siblings, while urging for active participation of women in politics.

On the other hand, Keirao AC intending INC candidate Y Shanta has urged all concerned to refrain from poll violence and instead allow the people to elect the representative of their choice.

Speaking to newspersons at his residence in Kyamgei on Sunday, Shanta condemned the poll violence that occurred in Keirao AC during a Christmas festival event on Saturday, while adding that the attack made against him on Saturday is neither the first nor the last.

He then appealed to all concerned not to indulge in poll violence and instead respect the universal franchise right of the people.
