Kuki militants bomb water supply scheme quarter

Suspected Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants on Saturday night destroyed a newly constructed quarter of a water supply scheme in Jiribam district by planting Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The attack was the third in the district this month, following a period of relative calm after the abduction and brutal' murder of three children and three women in November.
The explosion occurred around 8:15 pm in the campus of the water supply scheme located in Jatrapur Bengali Muslim village, about 5 kilometres south of Borobekra police station.
Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants had on December 11, also used IEDs and destroyed houses of Ningthoujam Yaima, a Meetei, at Narayanpur, about 1 km from Borobekra police station and Soibam Rajesh of Lamtai Khunou, about 3 km south of the same police station three days later.
Jiribam remains on edge following the November 11 attack on Karong Bazar, where two Meetei elders were brutally burned alive, and six villagers, including three children and three women, were abducted.
Mention may be made heavily armed Kuki-Zo-Hmar militants launched coordinated assaults and widespread arson in the same area during which 10 militants were gunned down by the CRPF .
