Babina Hospital, a unit of Babina Group of Companies, celebrated its first foundation day on Sunday at Hotel Imphal, North AOC, with leaders in the state's health sector praising the hospital's achievements and outlining plans for future expansion.
Speaking as chief guest, Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei asserted that success begins with building a dream, and credited Babina Group chairman Dr Thangjam Dhabali's vision and humble approach for transforming a small diagnostic centre into a leading medical institution.
He noted that the hospital had successfully performed its first kidney transplant on Saturday and expressed confidence that it would continue to provide comprehensive services in the years ahead.

Dr Chambo said that the state's hospitals are not inferior to those in other states and highlighted Manipur's recognition as the best northeast state in organ donation and transplantation for the second consecutive time while urging health workers to reach even inaccessible areas to ensure people receive quality care.
In his presidential speech, Dr Dhabali said Babina Hospital completed its first year without obstacles, and credited the entire staff for their dedication.
Originally focused on diagnostics, Babina Group expanded to treatment after recognising the lack of cancer care facilities in the state, partnering with the American Institute of Oncology (AOI) to establish the hospital.
The vision materialised within 18 months, and BABINA Multi-Specialty Hospital was formally inaugurated on August 4, 2024.Over the past year, the hospital has grown rapidly with the addition of several specialists and advanced equipment, becoming a fully functional multi-specialty facility, he elaborated.
The chairman said that around 300 kidney patients are registered for dialysis at the hospital, with about 90 receiving treatment daily.
With 30 machines running in both morning and evening shifts, the hospital plans to add 10 more beds within 45 days to ease the burden on patients travelling long distances.
He stressed that treatment in Manipur is generally cheaper than in other states.
Kidney transplants at Babina Hospital are aimed at saving lives, not making profits, and Saturday's transplant cost only Rs 6.5 lakh, significantly lower than Rs 20-25 lakh typically charged in cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
He also mentioned several free medical camps conducted by the hospital providing services to over 3000 individuals in the last one year.
Dr Dhabali also called for cooperation with the health directorate to address donor availability issues in accordance with rules and law.
He urged staff to work with sincerity, honesty, commitment and dedication to ensure patientsatisfaction, adding that Babina Hospital employs 305 staff members and implements welfare schemes, including the minimum daily wage of Rs 450 starting this month.
Earlier, delivering the keynote address, medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Shyamkumar Laishram highlighted the hospital's extraordinary journey, from its first surgery to landmark achievements such as the world's first documented surgery for a right-sided adult Bochdalek hernia with liver herniation, Manipur's first pectus excavatum case with ruptured bullae, and the hospital's first successful renal transplant.
He also emphasised on the introduction of high-frequency surgical laser technology, empanelment under CMHT and PMJAY for equitable access, emergency care services, and extensive outreach, including 17 free camps and over 1,470 emergency cases.
Applauding the dedication of the staff, he urged the team to carry forward their mission with skill, compassion, and patient-first values.
Outstanding employees were felicitated at the event, recognising their dedicated service, while cultural performances by BABINA Hospital staff added colour and warmth to the celebration.
