Many call for harmony, committees formed

Imphal, May 14 2023: Urging the govern-ment to bring back nor-malcy in the state, Kabui Union Manipur has stated that blame game will never bring any solution.

While expressing remorse over the violent clashes be-tween two communities, Union's joint secretary K Athoi Kabui said in a release that every soul is in fear psychosis thinking about the future of Manipur.

While informing that essential commodities ex-tended from various Kabui villages were distributed to relief camps, Athoi exhorted also urged the government to provide medical aids and daily needs to victims tak-ing refuge in different relief camps.

Meanwhile, under the supervision of 9th Sector Assam Rifles Commandant Col Rajeev a discussion pro-gramme on peace and con-fidence building was held at the residence of Sangang Kom village chief Emmi Ser-to Kom on Sunday.

The discussion pro-gramme was attended by Jat regimen commandant Col Chandrakant Sharma as special guest, former ZP member Amom Brojen Singh, social worker Sanjoy Ahanthem, retired head-master R Parengsong Kom, retired teacher M Mangeng-song Kom, Borayangbi GP former pradhan Md Fajur Rahman, social worker Md Abdul Satar, Maojang village chief Tongkhojang, village authorities and Dampi area village chiefs among others.

Speaking at the pro-gramme, Sanjoy Ahanthem reminded the gathering that Manipur is for everyone and further appealed to all com-munities to join hands in upholding unity of the state and restoring communal harmony.

Appealing everyone to refrain from vengeful ac-tivities, he stressed on the need to forget and forgive the unwanted incident so as to bring peace and harmony.

Maojang village chief Tonkhojang also called for promoting the bond of love between the hills and the valley while commandant Chandrakant Sharma stated that use of guns and mus-cle power will not resolve any dispute.

He stated that sincerity and bringing un-derstanding among the citi-zens would help in bringing lasting peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, Manipur State Council Communist Party of India stated that peace committees of Imphal West District CPI, Bishnupur dis-trict and Kshetrigao local council have been formed so as to help addressing the restive situation in the state.

Similar committees will also be formed in different districts, it added.

AMCO urges 'leaders' to work stand for peace IMPHAL: All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), the apex Christian body in the state, has called upon all leaders irrespec-tive of denominations to stand together in prayer for peace and reconciliation.

In a release, AMCO president reverend Simon Raomei and general secretary father Albert Leivon informed that it held 'Prayer and Fasting Service', at Rongmei Baptist Churches Council Centre Church Tarung, here on Sunday.

Stating that the programme was attended by priests, pastors, church leaders of all denom-inations, AMCO those present reflected on the prevailing unrest situation drawing insights from various perspectives.

The con-gregation prayed to console loss of livelihood, casualties amongst the Meitei and Kuki communi-ties, attack on churches, mission schools and persecution against Christian minorities, displaced people taking shelter in relief camp, freedom of worship for Meitei Christians and law & order situation.

The apex Christian body con-tinued that the congregation also prayed for an amicable solution through peaceful dialogue with conflicting communities, and for the Governor, chief minister, MPs, MLAs, CS0s, frontal organ-isations, student bodies, police personnel and security forces.

A brief report was also pre-sented on the damages done to various churches, worship centres, mission schools and other casualties on account of the ongoing ethnic conflict.

The congregation then stressed on the need for peacemakers in the society to work together to bring normalcy in the state.
