'Kidnapper' teacher arrested from Assam

Imphal, January 09 2023: Thokchom Kennedy, the teacher who has been accused of abducting a 13-year old girl student and gone into hiding, has been arrested by a combined team of Manipur and Assam police from Tejpur and rescued the girl student from his custody.

Informing this to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Dayas Aribam, who is convener of the JAC formed in connection with the case, stated that ever since Kennedy went missing along with the girl student, Thoubal police has been taking up measures to arrest him in addition a Manipur police team putting up in Assam to trace the culprit with the help of the Assam police.

He further informed that on December 7, 2023, a combined team of Thoubal police and Tejpur police was able to locate the whereabouts of Kenedy and arrested him along with rescuing the girl student.

The accused and the victim have been brought to Manipur and Thoubal women police has registered a case against Kennedy.

The girl is now undergoing rehabilitation process, he added.
