Imphal, August 20 2013:
The Zomi Council has said todat that the press note of the Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZoRO), Aizawl which appeared in some of the local newspaper on August 19, exposed the immaturity of the present ZoRO leadership who claimed to have pursued the objective of re-unification of all Zofate at the international level.
"Their open support for an "exclusive political demand" raised by a certain group in Manipur also testifies their ignorance about ground realities in politics.
Unfortunately, such misadventure have turns them into an Organisation who tries to meddle into the internal affairs of other state.
We appreciate the political activities of ZoRO at the international arena, yet politics sane mass-base sound like an empty vessel....," the Zomi Council said.
"Although both the Zomi Council and ZoRO have similar view on the concept of Zofate/Zosuan (descendants of Zo), our approach could be poles apart: They have focus on political unification of the Zofate whereas our immediate concern is on promoting the socio-cultural and economic ties of the people by adopting the principle of peaceful-co-existence.
Further Zomi Council is an Apex Body of various Zomi tribes who subscribe to the Council's ideology whereas ZoRO is an NGO of the NGO among the Zofate," the Zomi Council stated.
"Thus, the First and Second Zomi Convention might be politically motivated, yet the 3rd World Zomi Convention to be organised by Zomi Council will emphasis on Cultural Exhibition amongst the Zofate as well as Cultural Exchanges with other border communities to promote the spirit of co-existence.
As the 3rd Zomi Convention will be nonpolitical in nature, we understand why ZoRO decline our request for coorganiser of the said event.
With or without the sponsorship of ZoRO, we anticipated an overwhelming participation from every community from different parts of the world," it added.
