Imphal, May 14 2014 :
Expressing confidence over formation of government by NDA or Third Front at the centre, CPI Manipur State Council Secretary and candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Dr M Nara today claimed that UPA would not return to power at the Centre.
The Left parties held a nationwide protest on Wednesday last against the reported incidents of booth capturing, booth rigging and using of money and muscle power by political parties during the Lok Sabha polls 2014 .
"As part of the protest, I think it is right to make a brief comment on the election malpractices to the people," Dr Nara said while addressing newsmen at Irabot Bhawan here.
He said the Election Commission of India (ECI) denied a plea by left and Secular Alliance (LSA) for re-poll in several polling stations that recorded 90 percent voting during the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency polls.
The poll panel also rejected LSA's proposal to cancel or exclude all the votes cast in these booths, the CPI leader said.
Apparently a rebellious Nara alleged that the entire electoral process favoured the ruling party (Congress) to some extent in the national elections.
"Our efforts were truly aimed at bringing out the alleged wrong deeds by the Indian National Congress (INC)," he insisted.
But everything would be known on May 16, the day when results of the Parliamentary Polls would be out, said Nara while expressing hope that he would win the lone Inner seat.
Nara was fielded by LSA as its common candidate in the contest.
Nara also said he was confident to sweep his home turf constituency of Konthoujam in
Imphal West.
The exit poll might flip a little bit of its prediction, but the Congress was heading for defeat in the national elections, and that the UPA would not return to power this time," he said.
Nara also expressed the hope that either the NDA led by BJP or the Third Front would closely compete for the Government formation at the Centre.
